AUGH! Anonymous author, you've made me cry on my birthday! Don't worry, they were happy!tears. I loved this like whoa and am probably going to re-read it later so I can cry all over again.
adarog! I'm so sorry I made you cry, though I suppose if they were good tears, there's no real harm--I'm certainly a "Pathetic Sobbing In Front of the Computer Screen for Catharsis" kind of individual.
I hope you had a very happy birthday indeed, and thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a kind and lovely comment. It is much appreciated, and I'm thrilled you enjoyed this!
Thank you for taking the time to leave such a wonderful and flattering comment, gwy.
I'm glad you enjoyed this, particularly because I worried a lot about making a canon AU work--there's so much you have to do with an alternate universe (in the strictest sense, like this one, I mean) to make sure you end up with the same people at heart, you know? I'm not sure if I succeeded entirely, but I'm certainly glad you liked it.
I don't think Arthur would make a good servant in any world; I think it would just chafe too much. But I do believe he would appreciate someone making a place for him, appreciating him, and I believe he would do his duty nobly (no matter what that duty might be) in any world, too.
I'm glad you enjoyed Morgana, too, whom I realise in retrospect was really the primary driver for this story, even though I didn't realise it at first.
Thank you again for you wonderful feedback; it is much appreciated.
This was so incredibly lovely. Dreamy and golden is the words I'd use for it. I'm happy that things will be better now that Arthur's back, now that he finally understands.
Thank you so much for your generous and lovely feedback!
I think this story was very much a 'fix-it' universe in my head, even when I wasn't thinking of it that way, explicitly.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the atmosphere, which I think maybe came through because of the speed with which I wrote this--I was in one mindframe throughout. I definitely had an idea that there should be a certain haziness to the story, a certain mistiness, and I'm incredibly happy that it came through as 'dreamy and golden' for you.
Thank you again for taking the time to leave a comment; I really appreciate it.
this is beautiful - what a glorious world you've built, and a fantastic Arthur as he discovers all that his kingdom could be. I especially love the revelations about Morgana, and his meeting with Uther - wonderful. I'm going to bask in the future that this evokes.
zephre! You always leave the kindest, most flattering comments, which I'm certain are pretty undeserved, but as usual I am thrilled that you enjoyed reading this.
I think that this story was kind of building in my mind without me realising it--the first draft was very different, but clearly I had this whole driving force of MORGANA and FIXING THINGS and ARTHUR OPENING HIS WORLDVIEW clamouring at the back of my head, and when I finally sat down to write (quite desperately), it all kind of gushed out.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Uther scene, which was one of the first things to come into my head--too much Baba Yaga as a child, I think--and Morgana, who should have had more justice done by her, I feel.
Thank you again for your lovely comment; it is very generous and much appreciated!
OMG this was AMAZING! And not just because of the Merlin/Arthur dynamic. Just the whole fic in general.
I usually don't enjoy plotty fics (because I have a rubbish attention span) involving things other than porn and fluff, but this got me hooked! The points you made about Uther were really well made, and had me going 'oh yeah!' at several intervals. I especially liked the madman vs law of the land comparison!
I'm so, so happy you enjoyed this. It was such a frantic writing experience that I didn't really get to read it myself before I had to be done with it, if that makes sense, and I'm incredibly happy that reading it was a good experience for you.
I know what you mean about plot--sometimes I don't ever want for a fic to end, and I want the plot to stretch and stretch, but other times, I'll skim to the wonderful moments where someone makes a first kiss wonderful, or where people look at each other and understand for the first time--I think there's a real magic in them. I am therefore incredibly flattered and pleased that this plot worked for you, and that the meeting with Uther--which crept into my head before any of the rest of the fic did--did as well.
