This is a continuation of The Email Order Bridegroom which starts here I hadn't noticed that prompt included a rule that the characters had to be children. Sorry. That rule stands for all of April so that is going to be interesting for this series. It may have to be put on hold.
It’s nearly nine when Arthur drops Merlin off at home and heads off to the office. They’ve got their Marriage Interview Wednesday after next, so he pulls up 5 Things To Do to Get Your Marriage Based Green Card online and starts making an outline of what he and Arthur need for the interview.
There are no red flags like age disparity, cultural or ethnic difference or a language barrier but he grins at the idea that Gwaine actually arranged their marriage. He calls to make sure that Gwaine avoids mentioning that in his statement.
“Good thing you phoned. I was going to take all the credit for bringing you two love birds together,” Gwaine jokes. Merlin thinks about telling him how true that is but reconsiders. It’s sure to be more fun showing Gwaine how right he is.
Arthur’s put Merlin’s name on the house title and signed him up on Pendragon Construction’s insurance plan and his checking and savings accounts as well as making Merlin the beneficiary of his life insurance and getting Merlin a policy as well.
Fortunately, Arthur had taken several trips to London when Merlin was living there and even though they hadn’t met, they could have and Merlin notes down several possible first dates and other scenarios to discuss.
Their first meeting story was already taken care of and Arthur had a ticket stub keepsake in his wallet to back it up. They’ve tried watching a DVD of the play but keep getting distracted and making out on the couch instead. Arthur’s ”Your actoring is very hot" had made Merlin laugh and the next thing he knew he was pinned to the couch as the DVD played in the background. Merlin smiles remembering they’d tried twice more with the same result.
He scrolls through the photographs on his phone, flagging shots they’re both in to print for their file, smiling wider as he selects one with them both sporting Mickey Mouse ears, arms around Donald Duck’s shoulders. ”You’ve always been my favorite,” Arthur had confided. He’d said the same to Pluto and Goofy. ”I don’t want to hurt their feelings, Merlin. It’s tough enough playing second fiddle to a mouse.”
He emails the shots to be printed at the closest CVS, ordering doubles of several to frame and put around the house. A close up of them both laughing at the wedding will look great on his bedside table. He sends the Donald Duck photo to Arthur, texting This should be your work screen saver. Arthur smiley faces back.
Merlin’s feeling confident that they’ll be ready by Wednesday, so he sets the outline aside to go through his inbox. There’s an email about the call back in two days and a note from his mum reminding him that Gaius’s birthday is two weeks off and if he sends a card today it might get there in time. Mailed Saturday he replies. She doesn’t need to know that Arthur had to prompt him because he’d asked Merlin about birthdays and special occasions and entered them in his phone alerts.
Merlin’s phone buzzes with an incoming text. Arthur’s sent an article from Time Out Los Angeles.
LA’s Best Brewery Tours with Weekend Plans in the subject line.
Merlin texts him I heart my life kissy face.
Arthur’s I heart you kissy face has him grinning all day.
