Arthur paces in the background like a trapped man ready to collapse. He listens intently not wanting to miss a single word. Agravaine’s questions confirming Arthur's fears. He doesn't want to believe, he can’t. But Gaius doesn’t deny his past or disowns sorcery. Arthur keeps his eyes nailed to the floor because it’s hard to stare directly at Gaius, at a man he considers a friend when his loyalty is being challenged.
He’s tired, his strength seems to leave his body for the day as he warily looks up and sees something in Gaius’ eyes he can’t quite pinpoint. It’s as if he’s willing Arthur not to give up on him. And he wants nothing more than stand by his friends and say that none of them would ever bring harm to Camelot or to their king. Nevertheless he’s unable to do so, his uncle’s words have already taken home inside him and he can’t shake them off.
Arthur wants Agravaine to be wrong, he wants to trust Gaius because he can’t build and keep his kingdom alone. He needs help whether he admits it or not.
