Merlin knocked on the door. As soon as it opened he spoke to the man who stood there, “Uncle Gaius!”
Gaius smiled down at the small boy, “Merlin, my boy, it is good to see you.” He waved at the woman in the car, his niece. He then held the door open for the boy.
Merlin turned to wave at his mother before he entered the house. After he had entered the house he hugged the old man. “Mum said I was to stay with you while she went to the store.”
“Yes.” Gaius ruffled the boy’s hair and patted him on the shoulder. “Would you like some milk and biscuits?”
“Please,” the boy released his grip on the old man’s legs and headed toward a small table.
As soon as Gaius was seated, he spoke, “So Merlin, how is school?”
Merlin looked up from where he was dunking his biscuit in milk, “I like it.”
“I am glad to hear that.” Gaius gave him an amused smile, “Who is your teacher this year?”
Merlin gave him the biggest, goofiest smile, “Mr. Pendragon.”
Gaius couldn’t help but notice the smile. “Do you like Mr. Pendragon?”
“Yeah,” Merlin said with excitement. “He’s the bestest teacher ever.”
“What makes him the best teacher ever?” Gaius was curious as to the answer he might get.
“Well,” Merlin seemed to ponder his answer as he reached for another biscuit. “He’s really tall and he’s got big shoulders and a big smile.”
Gaius blinked a bit, surprised but spoke genuinely. “Those are some good traits for a teacher,”
“And he’s got light hair and blue eyes just like me,” Merlin continued in a rather chipper voice.
Gaius couldn’t help but notice Merlin’s excited state. “Well I can see that you like Mr. Pendragon.” He took a sip of his tea as he watched the boy.
Merlin finished chewing the biscuit in his mouth. “I like it when he says my name. I want him to be my teacher forever.”
Gaius did his best not to chuckle but smiled brightly at the boy. He would have to speak to his mother later.
