Where It's Due

Merlin trailed along behind Arthur and his knights as they rode back into Camelot. It had been a good hunt and most of them were in high spirits. Leon had killed a fine boar and there would be a feast in his honour that evening.

Snatches of their conversation floated back to Merlin:

"...nearly gored Arthur..."

"...how did you hit it from that distance?"

"Amazing marksmanship..."

"...you saved Arthur's life..."

"Don't exaggerate," Arthur said grumpily. "But thanks, Leon."

Leon still looked bemused by his luck.

Merlin stayed silent, trying not to feel bitter. One day, he told himself. One day...
