“For the umpteenth time, the answer is no,” Merlin answered, well beyond frustrated with persistent prat Arthur.
“Just one date. I know you’ll learn to like me if we go on just one date,” the idiot wheedled. Merlin wanted to smack him but didn’t believe in violence. Much.
He looked Arthur up and down and realized that he wouldn’t be able to commit much violence on the blonde anyway. Arthur looked like he worked out. A lot.
Of course Arthur noticed the looking and preened, abs flexing enticingly under his tight white t-shirt. Merlin’s frustration bubbled right back up to the surface.
“I don’t think you get the dating concept, Arthur, I shouldn’t have to learn to like you on a date. I should already like you to date you.” he crossed his arms over his chest, sighing. “I most emphatically do not like you and I don’t see that changing after a couple pints and a basket of wings. Which I do not eat because I’m a vegetarian as I’ve informed you again and again.”
“Okay. Pints and salads it is. See, I’m flexible.” Arthur answered merrily. “C’mon, it’ll be fun. Beer, salad, conversation, and then you can learn just how flexible I am. What do you say, Merlin? Is it finally a yes? Please say it’s a yes.”
Merlin threw up his hands. Arthur had been asking him out nearly every day for a month and a half. It was wearing. Merlin was worn out.
“All right. Fine. Beer, salad and I still won’t like you and then you’ll give up, right?” he asked hopefully.
“Don’t bet on it,” Arthur answered with a happy, confident grin.
“Of course I won’t,” Merlin answered, smiling despite his best efforts.
“Chicken salad’s okay, right? Chicken’s practically vegetarian.”
Merlin couldn't help laughing.
