Morgana, Mordred, Merlin. M and M and bloody M. God, they even looked like they belonged. All three dark haired, pale skin and blue eyes. He had assumed this Merlin guy was Morgana's lover, but it seems that was not the case at all. This made the whole arrangement all the more difficult to understand.

He hung his jacket dutifully on the hanger by the door, loosened his tie and dropped himself flat on his back on the large hotel bed. Three sets of blue eyes haunting him. This was murder. Mmmmmandmandmmmurder. The kid is Morgana's son, he should be with them! She should be with them! The mansion had too many empty rooms. His father was not the same after Morgana left. Sure, from the outside he was the same, weakness would impact the stock market. But Arthur could tell. Arthur spent a year trying to contact her and watching his father pretending not to know and not to care.

Arthur had an army of lawyers at his back, with an arsenal of professionals and know-it-alls waiting for the order to bend and form laws and words to his advantage. There were legions of workers and designers ready to transform any room in the mansion to a child's heaven. Whatever Mordred wanted he could have. Within reason, of course. But he wouldn't lack a thing. Mordred could come home.

He had been given an hour alone with the boy. Supervised of course, with people from social service present. The boy had said nothing at all. Arthur had tried his best, but there was no sound or smile to be found.

Arthur was charming, he knew that. He usually had a fairly good way with children. Mothers liked him and babies smiled. Gwen had taught him that there were other ways than his father's ways, and this had given him courage to try and find his own way. A bit like Morgana had, in her own way. But three miscarriages only few weeks in and the knowledge that his seeds were not likely to ever create a healthy embryo had been too much. The empty rooms in the mansion gaped towards her. Yes, he was bitter. She had moved in with his former friend Lance, who proved to be a better breeder and now they had twins. Happy, lovely and healthy children, like she had dreamt of. And she deserved happiness. She did. But everything would have been different if she had been here now. Her kind smile and warm soul would have made Mordred respond differently. He was sure of it.

Mordred's lips had started to quiver. Arthur had given the supervisors a desperate stare and they cut the meeting short. The boy ran down the hall and crashed into Merlin with enough force to make the man stumble backwards. Merlin had lifted him up and the boy clung boy to him desperately, sobbing against his shoulder.

That was when Arthur had come to a shocking revelation. The same revelation that now made it impossible to sleep.

He was the villain in this tale.
