“What exactly are we doing again?” Arthur asked, tired from being woken up in the middle of the night. He looked ahead, towards the empty always from the corner that Merlin stopped at.
“We are going to cause a ruckus, that’s what we’re doing,” Merlin looked up at Arthur through his lashes.
“If we’re going to cause a ruckus, then why did you stop near the kitchen?” He crossed his arms together, very nervous as to whether or not this nonsense would get him into trouble.
“I’m hungry,” Merlin said. Once he made sure the coast was clear, Merlin walked out into the Hallway and opened the doors that led into the kitchen.
The kitchen was abnormally larger than regular kitchens, sporting an island in the middle surrounded by countertops, two stoves, two refrigerators, and one sink. One could gain ten pounds during dinner time by just sniffing the air around the castle grounds.
Merlin grabbed two Danish Pastries and handed one over to Arthur.
“I have absolutely no idea why I decided to follow my manservant around the castle at one am in the morning,” Arthur sat the Danish Pastry back into a basket filled with them, decided to observe Merlin as he ate, pink tongue quickly darting to catch any crumbs around his mouth.
“Perhaps,” said Merlin, bracketing his hands against Arthur’s hips, “It’s because you love me.” He gave Arthur a peck on the lips before withdrawing. “C’mon, we have a ruckus to create.”

The two ran down the halls, nearly caught after trying to scare the sheep out of their barn. Arthur tried to talk Merlin out of doing the task, but he denied it, claiming that scaring sheep is very fun to do.
What amazed Arthur was the fact that there were sheep being contained on the castle grounds. It made no sense whatsoever, and he never heard of there being sheep. He continued to follower Merlin through the dark hallways of the castle, pausing for a small minute every now and then to catch his breath.
The two suddenly skidded to a stop, having encountered Gwen. “Arthur? Merlin? What are you two doing out here so late?”
Merlin narrowed his eyes, “Well…what are you doing out here at this late hour?”
“I was going to use the loo,” Gwen folded her arms and gave them both a look. She was one of the few who knew about Merlin and Arthur secretly dating. There was no doubt that she thought they were shagging somewhere in the building.
Arthur stepped up, definitely not wanting Gwen to think something like that, “If you’d like to know, Guinevere, we were…” He looked to Merlin for help.
“Chasing a gigantic rat!” Merlin said, “We saw it about an hour or two ago and was trying to find the rat to get rid of it,” He shrugged his arms.
Gwen stared at Merlin and Arthur, “Okay then,” She finally said, “Have a goodnight. I’ll see you two tomorrow.”
They both nodded at Gwen as she left to go back to her room. Gwen was Morgana’s best friend and servant, so she lived inside of the castle.
Arthur turned towards Merlin. A small smile walked across Arthur’s face, and he felt amused, “Really? A giant rat?”
“You’ll never know when a giant rat is found looking around for a late night snack?”
Arthur just brought his arm and pulled Merlin closed, patting his shoulder, “Merlin, I think it’s time you get some sleep.”
