The turnout to watch the trial of the first witch to be tried, since Uther outlawed magic, had more non-noble attendees, then Arthur’s own crowning festivities. It was so large a gathering, that Arthur had to move the trail to the courtyard.

Evidence wise, there were eyewitnesses, and the witch herself did not deny the charge, but Arthur played the part of judge to the letter. Including asking the woman if there was any witnesses on behalf of her character.

During the trial, Arthur had Gaius, Merlin and Gwaine walk the crowd, in peasant garb, to listen in on the mood of the crowd. Yes it was sneaky, but as king, his subjects would not tell him what was truly on their minds, no matter what their station. And knowing if there is distress that might cause an uprising.

The case itself, was over within four hours. The witch was sentence to death at dawn.

Arthur however was worried about the mummers from the citizens. That night he dined in his chambers with Gwaine, Gaius and Merlin.

“Overall the mummers we what we hoped for, most people were interested in how a trail works. Your father never had open trails, Sire,” Gaius started. “It is my belief that the general population will have no problem with your changes.”

“I agree princess. I slipped into the pub earlier and many people were retelling the tales of Just Arthur. Seems like you have a many more admires.”

“Why does it not surprise me that you took time to visit the pub, Gwaine, ” Arthur said, teasingly.

“Just doing through research,” Gwaine said, picking up his wine goblet, “However there is some noise coming from some of the older Lords, ones that were loyal to your father in the war.”

“Do I need to worry about retaliation?”

“No, right now they can’t decide if this trail was a sign of weakness or a plan to make Morgana drop her defenses. I don’t envy you princess, this is one reason I stayed away from court and politics.”

“What about you Merlin?”

“I heard must the same from the people, Arthur, but...I don’t think this will deter Morgana's assault against Camelot.”

“I know, my sister seems to think I am just like our father. She envies a relationship the Uther and I never had. I can’t figure out why she believes it, when she grew up here along side me.”

“I fear we will never know why Morgana changed the way she did, but I wouldn’t put it passed her own sister for her deep seated hate to you and Camelot.”

“I know Gaius. I do lie awake at nights, thinking how our lives could be different, if Urther told us. But that path was removed from us long ago.”
