Author's Notes: Some more Arthur brought up as a druid boy for you!

It’s strange, Arthur thinks, because this does work almost like he would have expected. He’s Merlin’s, wholly, completely. He spends his nights in Merlin’s bed, being kissed and touched like a plaything, and it’s good, it’s a good way to serve Emrys like he knows he should.

But Merlin is also his - he’s kind and he doesn’t make Arthur do what he wants him to and he watches him like it really matters if he’s happy or not - like he isn’t just a druid boy without magic or a family of his own. It’s strange how he can be owned and possess at the same time. It’s new, and it feels right. There’s nowhere he’d rather be than holding Merlin in his arms, feeling his chest rise and fall as he sleeps. It frightens him, a falling-off-a-cliff feeling he knows well from nightmares, but is real now.

It’s the responsibility of Merlin telling him he feels safe in his arms, even though he’s the most powerful sorcerer who’s ever lived and shouldn’t need anyone to make him feel safe. And it’s the desperate need to never, ever let it stop.

“You remember I told you you have a destiny?” Merlin murmurs, late one night, when they’re both exhausted and warm and wrapped in each other.

Arthur hums in response, nuzzling into Merlin’s shoulder.

“Well, remind me to fill you in. But tomorrow.”

Arthur hums again, feeling Merlin shiver as he strokes down his back. It’s odd, knowing someone this well, knowing where he tickles, where each of his moles lies. It’s almost like how he feels when he’s fighting Leon, knowing his every move before it comes, but there’s more to it than that. It’s like- no, it’s exactly that-

It’s that Merlin is a part of him and he’s a part of Merlin. It’s nothing about ownership or property, it’s about belonging, and it’s new to Arthur but a little bit amazing too.

So much so that he wakes Merlin up just to tell him, and Merlin bats him upside of the head, and then threads his fingers through his hair to pull him in and kiss him.

“I love you too,” he tells Arthur, as they settle for sleep again. Arthur doesn’t manage to drift off, too full of possibility and happiness to face inadequate dreams.
