After they packed up camp and started hiking, Arthur asked Merlin and Kilgharrah, “So what’s the situation? Do we have any idea what this big evil will be?”
Merlin looked at Kilgharrah, who answered. “We are fairly sure it is not Morgana again. She has not resurfaced like we expected her to do.”
Arthur nodded. “I would hate to have to fight her again. It always hurt that she wanted to fight.”
Merlin sighed. “I wouldn’t like it either. Since we don’t know who or what we’re fighting, that makes the situation that much more grim.”
“I agree,” said Kilgharrah. “It means that we have to prepare for all contingencies. That is difficult to do.”
“It’s a tactical mess,” said Arthur. “What do you have the knights doing now?”
“They are watching the news,” replied Merlin. When Arthur looked puzzled, he explained further, “We don’t have to rely on messengers for news from other places anymore. It’s difficult to explain. You have to see it to understand it, and it’ll take us about a week to hike out of here.”
“So we have plenty of time for you to explain it,” Arthur said.
Merlin groaned. “It would appear that I do.” And so he began explaining the principles behind television. Once Arthur understood that, they could start on the internet. And cars. And basically anything else that came up in conversation. It was a good thing that Merlin could talk.
