Someone once asked Merlin if he had any hobbies. At the time, he’d laughed and said, “chasing after the Prince.” Who would believe that his actual hobbies included sneaking out at night, deciphering cryptic dragon messages, keeping his magic secret, and using magic to protect the kingdom?
Merlin knew that Arthur thought his hobby was drinking at the tavern, though he’d denied it several times. He also knew that Arthur’s hobby was pestering Merlin. He never tired of that, to Merlin’s chagrin. Gwen had softened Arthur on this after they were married, but he never stopped until after he died. Then Merlin missed being pestered quite keenly, unless you counted watching over his grave.
