There wasn't a single inexpensive object among Morgana's possessions. She left behind exquisite gold jewelry, dresses made of the finest silks, and rich furs. Every piece of furniture was expertly crafted and carved. Silver-framed mirrors reflected the light filtered through magnificent stained glass windows.
Pensive and sad, Gwen circled the fugitive queen's deserted chambers, seeing everything in a new light now that she knew Morgana's true nature. In the end, all these beautiful objects, the shimmering cloths and glittering gems, had been nothing more than superficial gilding that disguised the darkness and decay of cheap and corrosive malice.
