Through fire, through flood, through battles thought lost. Through terror and glory, Arthur, with his shining hair and shining crown and shining, shining sword, would rescue Merlin.
He could count on it as much as the sun rising and the stars in the sky.
An ever-fixed mark.
It wasn’t the kind of rescuing he wanted.
Because that shining hair needed Merlin’s fingers running through it, and Merlin’s mouth busy polishing another, more fleshy sword until Arthur cried out from the ecstasy of it all.
Merlin ached with the thought of Arthur and pleasure’s rescue.
And knew it would never come.
