The Thief
If anything was stolen from them, it was time, and fate was the thief.
Fate made them limit themselves to secret smiles and tender touches. Years passed. They had to wait for Arthur to become king.
Once Arthur was crowned, fate allied with Morgana to create a seemingly endless row of calamities. No time for Arthur and Merlin to build the promised golden kingdom and to fill it with their love, openly displayed, nor with joy and prosperity for all.
Then time ran out. Without as much as a minute left to pilfer, cruel fate stole Arthur from Merlin instead.
