When Morgana returned from her day off, she found the living room and kitchen spotless. The mess in the bedroom was sorted, and even the bathroom sparkled. Sparkled! She couldn’t fathom how this had happened, especially with Ellie in tow.
She walked into the nursery and found Merlin standing over the crib. Merlin turned and put a “shh” finger over his lips. He walked toward Morgana, catching her elbow and gently tugged her from the room. After he closed the door, they walked to the living room where they both sat on the sofa.
“I guess I don’t have to ask, ‘what did you do?’ because the answer is pretty clear. But now I’m wondering, how did you do it all?” Morgana asked.
“I cheated,” Merlin replied. “I called Gwen.”
“Oh, you cheated. I see.”
“But Morgana, I see why you are so tired at the endo of the day. Ellie is challenging at best, so there’s no time to get anything done. I can empathize with you now.”
“Hmm. That’s true. Why didn’t I think to call Gwen?”
“Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re stubborn. You want to do everything yourself. Gwen’s willing to help most days. You just have to ask.”
Morgana smiled. “You’re right-I am stubborn. And I really should call her more often.”
“There you go. Just remember that when things get hard. And speaking of things getting hard, Arthur’s going to rib me for taking the day off.”
“If he does, let me know. I can give him an earful. Or even better, a day with his grumpy niece, sans Gwen.”
“There’s the Morgana I remember.” Merlin grinned. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. “Things will get better, I know it. If I have to take more days off so I can do this again, I will.”
“Thank you, Merlin. I appreciate that.”
“Anytime. Now, would you like another nap before dinner? Ellie should sleep for a while.”
“I have something more fun in mind,” Morgana said with a smile. She stood and held out her hand. “Join me in the bedroom?”
“You don’t have to ask me twice.”
