“Hey, Merlin! Wait up.” Morgana yelled from behind him.
Merlin stopped in his tracks and turned around. “What is it?”
“I just wanted to talk, that’s all.”
“Okay.” He started walking again.
“Well, how was your day?”
“Average.”
“That doesn’t sound good.”
He sighed. “Well, it wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad, so, average.”
“Geez, you’re so private.”
“Morgana, you already know all there is to know about me. I dare not keep anything from you. So calling me private is kind of a joke, really.”
“You’re in a strange mood today.”
“It’s the anniversary of my dad’s death.”
Morgana stopped in her tracks. “Oh my goodness, Merlin, I’m so sorry.”
“How could you know? I kept that detail private.”
She reached out and took his hand. “I’m still sorry. That must be so hard.”
“It is, but someday maybe it won’t hurt so much.”
She tugged on his hand. “Come on, I’m going to treat you to a coffee.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“You need something to brighten your day a bit. What could do that better than a coffee and my company?”
“Thanks, Morgana.”
“Don’t mention it. Now, let’s go. I have a feeling your mum could use a little pick-me-up too. We’ll get one for her.”
“That’s so sweet of you.”
“All part of helping you two feel better on a day like today.”
