Loyalty and Love
Averting his face from the driving rain, Gwaine was hurrying in the direction of the tavern when he noticed a lonely and forlorn shape under the gate's stone arch. "Merlin! Why are you standing here in this horribly miserable weather? You're drenched!"
Shrugging, Merlin gestured in the direction of the training field. "Arthur is still working on his battle skills. With the news that Morgana once more threatens Camelot, his stamina knows no bounds."
"I'd say the one with the most stamina here is you, my friend. Your patience and loyalty seem limitless. I hope Arthur realizes just how much you endure to serve him."
Merlin was shivering. He shrugged, a wry half-smile crossing his blue lips. "Oh, well - you know Arthur. He can be pretty dense and oblivious."
Gwaine frowned, worried. "You should go inside immediately to get properly warmed up. You'll catch your death out here."
Shaking his head, Merlin didn't budge. "I'll wait a while longer. It'll be fine," he insisted through chattering teeth.
"The things we do for love, eh?"
Merlin opened his mouth to voice denial, but his words would not come. After a beat he hung his head. "All too true," he sighed.
