Lancelot lay back against the pillows and watched in surprise as Merlin bustled around the room. Usually Merlin detested having to rise early. It was a rare treat to see the young warlock up and about with spring in his step.
Merlin placed the empty containers in a sack and sat it on the table before he turned to look at Lancelot. “Gaius has asked me to go into the woods and collect some herbs that he is dangerously close to being out of.” He said in a passable imitation of the court’s physician. “I’d ask you to come but I know you’re probably still tired.”
For a brief moment Lancelot’s mouth fell open as he stared at Merlin in complete and utter shock. “Are you questioning my stamina?”
The look on Lancelot’s face and the tone of his voice made it seem as if Merlin had called into question his manhood and his birth with the simple statement.
He quickly shook his head. “I only meant that after last night...” Merlin took a deep breath before he continued, “It’s going be a long walk and...”
“Stop.” Lancelot jumped to his feet and began to dress. “I’ll go with you on this long walk to collect the herbs and when we get back I’ll prove to you how much stamina I actually have.”
Merlin turned around and grabbed the sack off the table before Lancelot could see the pleased smile cross his face.
