Lovely and Kind
Lady Vivian stepped daintily out of the door, beaming in the sunlight. "What a beautiful day! Perfect for walking to the lower town to share sweetmeats with disadvantaged children."
"Yes, my lady," Gwen said, following the blonde beauty with a big basket on her arm.
"Are you sure that's not too heavy? Do you want me to help you carry it, Gwen?" Vivian inquired earnestly just as the two of them passed by Merlin and Gaius.
"Thank you, my lady, I can manage very well," Gwen answered.
Vivian smiled at her admiringly. "You must be the best maid I've ever had the pleasure of being served by. There's no need to stand on formality. Please do call me Vivian."
The two women walked briskly on and out of earshot.
Gaius looked at Merlin in amazement. "What on earth happened to the Lady Vivian? She seems practically human!"
Merlin shrugged, unable to hide a mischievous grin. "Strange, isn't it?"
Gaius eyed him suspiciously. "Merlin! Did you have anything to do with this?"
"Not at all," he laughed. "Well, not much, anyway. The merest little bit."
"Merlin!"
"I may have given her personality a tiny magical makeover, Gaius. Just enough to ensure it'll remain as beautiful and generous as her appearance is for the duration of her stay in Camelot."
Gaius grumbled, but patted Merlin on the shoulder. "I should obviously object to such secret magical practices on general principle, but...."
"But?"
"In this case, all I will say is 'thank you'."
