Author’s notes: Not beta’d. Yay! What else is new.
“Can you calm down for a second?”
Merlin was still pacing and fidgeting. “How can I? They saw me!”
Arthur groaned and grabbed Merlin’s wrist when he paced by and pulled him down on the couch with him. “So what?”
“They are going to tell on me! I told you taking a ‘mental health day’ or whatever you called it was a bad idea! I’m going to lose my job!”
“You won’t.”
“I will. You know what a snitch she is!” Merlin looked miserable.
“Hey.” Arthur made Merlin look at him. “Yes, I know. But even if you are calling in sick, you are allowed to go to the bakery or supermarket to get food. If she gossips, we will do something about it.”
“Everyone will think I’m just lazy.”
“Nobody thinks you’re lazy.”
“You tell me all the time.” Merlin pouted.
“That was before. Now you are working for our company and I see how hard you work.”
“And yet…”
“And yet…I’m still the boss.” Arthur smirked. “And I told you to stay home. If they have an issue with it, they should come to me.”
Merlin snorted. “Oh, they will have an issue with it. Trust me, they do not like that the new one didn’t start at an entry level position and they will not like when they find out that the new one is fucking the boss.”
Arthur sighed. “Do we have to go through this again? You didn’t start at an entry level position because you have lots of experience in exactly what we were looking for. It wasn’t my decision by the way. If you must know, the board decided to offer you that level.”
Merlin didn’t seem to be appeased. “The board might not like us being together either.”
Pulling him close, Arthur pressed a kiss in Merlin’s hair. “Then we will have to switch out the board. It’s none of their business what we do in our spare time. And all that talk about fucking the boss…” He wiggled his eyebrows.
Merlin couldn’t help but grinning about that. “So…should we continue where we’ve left off before breakfast?”
“Yup. At least this way, it’s not just empty gossip.”
