Summary: Merlin invites Arthur to a work function his crush will also be attending. Fun and awkwardness ensues.

Merlin had invited Arthur, his boyfriend of three and a half years, to one of his work's social functions, which he had helped to organise with Gwaine.
Merlin arrived at the bowling centre before Arthur. Morgana had dragged her brother out clothes shopping that morning and Arthur's car had managed to get a flat battery, so he was running a bit late.
It didn't take long for Merlin to spot someone he knew though. Gwaine had noticed his arrival and was walking towards him with his usual swagger. Merlin smiled at the sight of his old friend and greeted him with the usual hug.
“So, who is here so far?” Merlin asked, worried about the events success. Gwaine rattled off the names of a few of their co-workers. They still had to wait for a few people yet before they could start.
“I thought you said your boyfriend was coming?” Gwaine asked, as they stood near the front of the centre to wait for people.
“He is, he is just running a bit,” Merlin replied.
“I thought he would have come with you.”
“No, his had to take his sister clothes shopping this morning.”
“Oh, I see.”
Gwaine had met Arthur a few times before and seemed to approve of Merlin’s choice of partner. They didn’t have to wait long before Gwaine spotted Arthur coming towards the entrance. He pointed him out to Merlin, whose face lit up.
To get to where they were, Arthur had to walk out of sight and to the start of the entrance ramp on the side of the building. When he was just out of their sight, Gwaine said to Merlin, "Quick, let's make out."
He may have used the word "pretend" too, but Merlin’s brain didn't quite register it due to shock. What it did register though was Gwaine leaning in towards him as if he was going to kiss him and really make out. Merlin’s shock increased and he moved his head slightly away from Gwaine’s attempt, even though he was pretty sure Gwaine was only kidding around.
The time it took Arthur to get to them was too long in Merlin’s book and when he was finally standing in front of them, Merlin made sure to hug and kiss him in greeting more for his own sake than anyone else’s. He needed to remind both his heart and his brain who is partner was and who it wasn’t. Besides, Arthur had turned up in a new leather jacket that suited him handsomely. Much better than Gwaine’s.
The afternoon of bowling and pool turned out to be a lot of fun, even if there were a limited number of people that turned up. Everyone had fun. Merlin and Gwaine had a few flirtatious moments, even with Arthur there, but Merlin didn’t think too much of it because Arthur knew about his little crush and didn’t mention anything. Merlin took comfort in the fact Arthur knew and was still with him, because he was sure he wouldn’t be if it bothered him a great deal.

After their afternoon of activities, they had organised a group dinner at a local pub. Towards the end of the night, Merlin went to the gents and came back to find Gwaine sitting in his seat and talking to Arthur who had been sitting beside him.
Merlin thought about telling Gwaine to move or saying “Would you jump in my grave as fast?”, but instead he decided to just lean over the back of Gwaine’s chair. He put his arms over Gwaine’s shoulders and crossed them over his chest in a rather affectionate manner.
Gwaine looked up at Merlin leaning over his shoulder and then said, “I thought he would have hit me for taking his seat,” directing his comment at Arthur.
Arthur smiled, “He can be rather physical at times, can’t he?”
Merlin shot Arthur a warning look, but let it slide. Arthur and Gwaine continued to talk and Merlin stayed where he was. Others around the table noticed the arrangement of the men and one of their colleagues piped up. “Arthur, aren’t you jealous of the way Merlin is hanging all over Gwaine?”
In response, Arthur proceeded to snuggle up to Merlin, which of course brought him closure to Gwaine as well. This prompted someone else to say, “He isn’t jealous because he wants a threesome.” This just encouraged Arthur. He proceeded to lean closer to Gwaine and purse his lips ready for a kiss. Gwaine wasn’t having any of it and pulled away from both Arthur and Merlin.
Gwaine looked up at Merlin and asked, "Are you sure he is only interested in you?" Merlin had previously had a conversation with him about the way Arthur liked to joke about being with his best friend, Lancelot, but had assured Gwaine that Arthur only really had eyes for him.
Merlin laughed, “Yeah, I’m sure.”
Merlin wasn’t so certain about himself at that moment though. However, he did know that he had enjoyed the moment with the three of them.
