Merlin couldn’t watch.
Gwen was a good friend, standing by him always, backing him up when he needed it most. But seeing her glide down the hall, Arthur waiting, his grin brilliant in the light as the wedding march played, was too much for Merlin to bear.
He loved Gwen, he did, as a friend.
But he loved Arthur with everything in him. His heart, his soul, his destiny.
Turning away, knowing Arthur’s joy was Merlin’s desolation, he wept at the loss. Knowing tomorrow, he’d have fake smiles and good wishes for them both.
But tonight, Merlin refused to watch.
