“Ow, my eyes! Close the drapes, Merlin!” Arthur yelled, keeping his eyes closed.
“I haven’t opened the drapes yet, sire,” Merlin replied. He knew something like this would happen.
“Well keep them closed. And just what are you doing here at this ungodly hour?”
“This is your usual wake-up time.”
Arthur’s eyes popped open and he winced. “Argh.”
“Come on, Arthur, you need to get out of bed.”
“Please stop yelling at me. You’re making my headache worse.”
Merlin stopped what he was doing and put his hands on his hips. “I warned you last night to slow down the drinking, but you just couldn’t help yourself, could you?”
Arthur sat up gingerly. “Are you implying that I’m hungover?”
“Exactly so.”
“I am not hungover.”
“Oh, so you don’t want this hangover cure Gaius made?” Merlin brandished a little bottle. “I can testify that it works well.”
Arthur managed to focus on the bottle. “Hand over that bottle.”
“You need to say ‘please.’”
“Merlin, I am your king. I don’t need to say ‘please.’”
“All right, here you go. You don’t need to go throwing your title around.” Merlin handed over the bottle. “I warn you, it’s nasty. You should down it in one.”
Arthur glared. “Thanks.” He pulled out the stopper and dumped the bottle into his mouth, swallowing it quickly. “Ugh, that’s awful.”
“I warned you. So now you should be able to get out of bed without too much harm.”
Arthur found that he could indeed get out of bed without his head or stomach spinning. “Great, now how about breakfast?”
Merlin gestured to the table. “I knew you’d be especially hungry after last night, so there’s plenty of your favorites to get you going for the day.”
“Thanks, Merlin. I owe you.”
“You have no idea how much.”
“What was that?”
“Oh, nothing. Just enjoy your breakfast.”
