For once, Merlin beat Morgana home from work. He was just thinking about what to prepare for dinner when Morgana dragged herself into the house and shut the door behind her. “What happened to you?” he asked as he took in her haggard appearance.
Before she could reply, she sneezed. Merlin scrambled for a tissue and handed it to her. She blew her nose and looked up at him. “Thank you,” she replied. She dropped her back and made her way into his arms.
He held her tightly. “Do you have a cold?”
“Yes, someone came to work sick last week and left their germs everywhere. And if that wasn’t enough, Morgause really laid on the work today. I’ve been going since I got in this morning.”
“Oh, my love. I’m so sorry. Would you like a nice, hot bath while I make dinner?”
She smiled up at him. “That would be lovely. Thank you.”
Merlin helped her to the sofa where he gently sat her down. He then went into the bathroom to start the water running. He made sure it was hot and poured some of her favorite lavender-scented bath salts in. He then went back to Morgana and said, “Give it a few minutes and it’ll be ready.”
“You are a priceless gem sent from above,” she told him, tipping her head up for a kiss.
“Why thank you.” He knelt down and kissed her. He stood again and walked toward the kitchen to figure out dinner. A few minutes later, he heard a small splash as Morgana sank into the water. He was glad he could provide some small measure of relief to her terrible day.
