Title: The Weight of It All
Rating: PG13
Character/s: Freya
Summary: Before she lived with the druids, Freya had endless nights as a monster.
Warnings: None
Word Count: 136
Prompt: #360, "village"
Author's Notes:

Dawn breaks through the trees, but Freya does not see it. She cannot bear to open her eyes and witness the proof of the night’s destruction. The stench of clotting blood is nearly enough to make her vomit.

At least she knows some of it is her own. Her leg stings from an open wound. Part of her wants to leave it untended in hopes it will put an end to all this.

But she does not. As her skin begins to warm, she finally braves the day and crawls farther away from the murmurs emanating from the village, deeper into the foliage so they cannot find her when they come hunting for the monster who savaged them in their sleep. Urges to betray her whereabouts are stifled.

Apparently, her desire to live outweighs her need for punishment.
