“Our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple,” Merlin said. “What do you want to do?”
“Isn’t Valentine’s Day a holiday invented by greeting card companies?” Morgana replied.
Merlin sighed. They’d had this discussion every year since they’d become a couple all those years ago. He usually got her a card and dropped the subject, but this year was different. He’d read that though the non-holiday was over commercialized, it was still a good reminder of the need to reconnect with your romantic partner. And one of the best ways if doing that was trying something new as a couple. He was determined that they should do so.
He reached out and took her hand. “Morgana, I read that Valentine’s Day is a good reminder of the need to reconnect with your partner. I’d love to do that with you by doing a new activity together.”
“What would we do? Not some overpriced meal at a fancy restaurant that we can’t afford,” Morgana said.
“No, of course not. I thought we’d do something that would cost us nothing but time.”
“Go on, I’m listening.”
“We could spend the evening at a homeless shelter, serving dinner or doing whatever they needed us to do.”
Morgana’s eyes lit up. “Merlin, that’s a perfect idea! We’ll be together, doing something for others.”
Merlin grinned. “I thought you’d like that. It doesn’t have a bit of romance in it, but it still suits us as a couple.”
“Oh, I wouldn’t say there’s no romance involved.” She pulled Merlin to her and leaned up to kiss him thoroughly. “There might be more of that involved when we’re done for the night.”
“I’ll start contacting shelters now,” Merlin replied. He pulled out his phone. “Oh I guess I should have some actual phone numbers first, huh?"
Morgana giggled. “That tends to help, yes.”
She pulled him over to the sofa where his laptop sat and began a new search on it. Together they figured out which one needed their help.
