Four Morgana and Morgause looked at each other as Aredian took one of the two men, Valiant, and headed down the basement stairs. They had delayed them for a bit but now that Aredian would find that it was a ploy, they were nervous. They busied themselves as best they could as they waited with the other man, Helios. It seemed to take forever but it was only about ten minutes before Aredian stormed back up. “Where is he?!?”
Morgana, despite knowing it was coming, startled so much that she dropped her phone. It was Morgause who stayed calm. “Who?”
Aredian practically ran at her but didn’t touch her. “Where.Is.The.Boy?!?”
“Boy?” She gave him as odd a look as she could muster. “If you mean Arthur, in his room I guess. I’m certainly not his keeper.” She rolled her eyes as she turned away from Aredian to look at her sister.
Aredian spoke as he pulled out his phone. “Helios, Valiant, check the house.” They moved off quickly as Aredian walked a few steps away to place a call. He didn’t address the person on the other end of the line but the sisters could easily guess their identity.
Morgana had picked up her phone and moved close to Morgause. She held up the screen so that her sister could see that Gwen and others were a few minutes away. “I left the front door ajar,” Morgause whispered.
A few moments passed before Aredian quietly walked to the pantry and opened the door. He found Arthur’s phone under a box of cookies. He said nothing as he moved toward the two girls. It seemed an eternity as he stared at them saying nothing until Valiant and Helios returned. Helios spoke, “No sign but the house is huge with lots of places to hide.”
Morgause tried to play things off. She was upset but not surprised to discover that Uther really could trace their phones. She simply kept her cool not wanting to tip her hand in any way. She was certain, however, that Aredian thought himself clever and underestimated both herself and Morgana. “I’m sure Arthur is around here somewhere. His car is still here and he knows friends are coming over.”
Aredian stared at her trying to figure out where to go with this. He turned to his henchmen, “Valiant, check the garage. They should have four quads. Helios, look around the back of the house for evidence of anyone leaving on foot.”
To cover their nerves, Morgana and Morgause began pulling out bowls of all sizes and filling them with salsa, dips and chips. Aredian watched them for a moment before he asked, “What are you doing?”
Neither of them bothered to look at him, but Morgana did answer his question “She did say we have friends coming over.” The timing couldn’t have been better. The sound of several people coming through the front door cut off anything Aredian was going to say. He stepped back from them and leaned against a cabinet, watching. Morgause held her breath until she saw that it was more than just Gwen, Forridel and Sefa. Gwaine, Elyan, Leon, Percival all came into the kitchen and grabbed the bowls of food before heading to the sitting room. Alvarr made his way to Morgause, pulling her close and giving her a kiss. “So, did you enjoy yourself last night?” Morgause simply smiled and cast a glance at Aredian.
Alvarr got the hint and looked up to see Aredian watching them closely. “Who’s the old codger?”
“He’s a friend of my father’s.” Morgause took Alvarr by the hand to lead him away, “Just ignore him.”
