Merlin walked into his house after work. “Morgana?” he called out. There was no answer, so he headed toward the kitchen. She wasn’t there either, but the table was set nicely and a delicious smell arose from the oven. He began walking down the hall toward their bedroom and heard talking. The bedroom door wasn’t closed all the way. He paused to listen before entering.
“-so I went and bought a test . . . yeah, I took it, and guess what it said? . . . I’m pregnant!”
Merlin’s jaw nearly hit the floor. Morgana was pregnant? Why didn’t she tell him she thought she was before? He kept listening.
“No, I haven’t told Merlin yet . . . I guess I was just unsure and didn’t want to say anything until I knew for sure . . . yeah, I’ll tell him tonight. I’ve got a romantic dinner planned.” She laughed. “Yeah, it’s kind of funny when you put it that way . . . See you later, Gwen. Bye.”
Merlin backed up. There was no way he wanted to be caught out here, eavesdropping. He walked back to the living room and stood there, not knowing what to do with himself. Before he could decide, Morgana came around the corner.
“Merlin, hey! Just get home?” she asked.
“Yeah. Hey, um, I . . .” He debated whether he should come clean about overhearing her. Swallowing, he decided. “I overheard you talking to Gwen just now.”
She paled. “You did? What did you hear?”
“Just the last part, where you said you were . . . pregnant.”
“Oh, darn it! I wanted to tell you myself, but at least you know now.” She looked down.
He reached out and lifted her chin. “Hey, I’m not upset or anything. Just very, very surprised.” He smiled gently. “And very, very pleased.”
“Really?”
“Of course! We’re having a baby! Can you imagine it? I’m so excited!”
She threw her arms around him. “I’m so glad!”
He pulled back a little and bent down to kiss her. They then walked into the living room and cuddled together on the sofa, talking about their bright future together.
