Well, i finally made it back home from China yesterday, although at the time i was too worn out from travelling to do anything about it. Now, however, i am somewhat refreshed although still jetlagged, and ready to write all about it!
China was absolutely beautiful, i mean some of the places we went were positively breathtaking, especially the Great Wall and the Summer Palace. You see, the many buildings of the Summer Palace are spread out on the shores and in the mountains around this magnificent, man-made lake, and they're all very pretty and painted both colorfully and skillfully. You can ride "dragon boats" (which are also very pretty) across the lake so you really get the full effect, and.... it's awesome. I'd post pics if i could, since i took a lot with my digital camera, but i still haven't quite figured out how to get it done. I also have tons of pictures of the Great Wall and the mountains around it, if anyone cares to come look. Sophia and i decided that we needed to figure out how to make the "Great Wall workout" transportable, because it's a fairly hard climb, but i didn't mind at all because it was so beautiful and the farther you got up, the more you saw and the better it was.
Then there were the Lama and Confucious Temples, which had a sort of spiritual beauty - perhaps it was the incense offerings hanging in the air, or the beautiful morning lighting (i took some of my best pictures at the Confucious Temple just because the light was so great), or the silent worshippers in one of the high places of their faith, or just knowing that these were temples, places devoted to intense spirituality, but whatever it was, for a while it was working for me. I bought a large box of incense at the Lama Temple, so maybe a piece of it came home with me. At the very least, i think Krystal will be impressed when i bring it to ISU this fall.
Speaking of ISU.... i have a full ride scholarship!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited, you have no idea, because this is where i really want to go to school, and now they're even paying for me to do so! I am now very assured and happy about my future, not to mention relieved that i won't have to fill out any more annoying, time-consuming scholarship applications. Phew.
And now that i've got that out of my system, back to China. Let's see... Our tour guide was very enthusiastic about trying to get our group to spend all of our money, and we went to many shopping areas and specialty stores to facilitate this. I saw piles of pearls, row upon row of jade artifacts, and mounds of silk. I got a very pretty dress that i will probably wear to graduation, if not prom, and am quite happy about it. Now if i only had a prom date...
As i am now quite tired (not back on Central time yet), i'm going to leave whatever else to another day...
I'm happy to be home!
...and a quiz to round things out:
