hmmmm. If i seemed to disappear this weekend, it was because of Wesleyan honor band (first chair! yes!), and i shall now proceed to tell you the tale of our scary Disney director. According to Pat Fortney, he's one of the "top 5 band directors in the country", apparently because he directs movie music down in California and Fortney has 4 Disney posters on his office walls (it's true! the walls are glass, and they're right there...). Unfortunately, California has also made him very Hollywood-fake - he'd be completely tearing someone apart and the whole time he'd have this big fake smile pasted across his face. Or else, he'd change moods reeeaallly quickly... But the songs we played had good horn parts, we had a good horn section in general, and i got a compliment from Jack Snider, so all was well.
Went to see "Chicago" Friday night. It was excellent. I would recommend it to, well, to anyone who appreciates the entertainment value in a good musical and isn't too squeamish about the subject matter. Hmmm. That sounds awkward. It really was a good movie, despite my bad writing at this moment.
The LYS trip to China is under debate again, since the illustrious Mr. Bush seems determined to get us into an aggressive and unprovoked war. Besides the wrongness of the whole situation, we're going to China, which is NOT the Middle East and in fact has good reason to take really good care of American tourists. However, the Homeland Security level has been ambiguously raised again, so that must mean we're all going to die if we do anything out of the ordinary, right? Grrrrrrr. People get so afraid that they never do anything worthwhile, only the things that are "safe".
