Ramblin' (Wo)man

So I think I'll ramble off some more about Tales of the Abyss. Perhaps you will find it amusing!*

*you probably won't

I know Guy's backstory is supposed to be shocking and tragic and shit, but the only I could think of is, "Isn't this Dexter's backstory?" It's eerily similar. Except for developing Gynophobia (or rather, Hemophobia in his case) like a pussy, Dexter just became a serial killer instead.

Speaking of Guy, I find it hilarious how when everyone got their swimsuit costumes (of course I went to get swimsuit costumes. Now the game's attempt to create legitimate drama is 70% harder!) everyone else freaks out at the sight of their fellow party member battling the legions of darkness in their speedo... except Guy. They're oddly cool with it. I suspect that it has something to do with the fact that normally Guy's pants are just painted on anyway. It's really no more immodest.

Speaking of swimsuits and immodesty (I did it again!) I used to always had Jade as the lead character because it's Jade, motherfucker. Well, his swimsuit costume, for those that don't know, is a knee-high robe. Okay. So I'd have him as the lead with that costume as I notice something... it kinda flaps up when he runs. ...okay, so Natalia's now the lead!

Speaking of... erm, nothing. Er, anyway, god fuck you Namco (or Tales Studio or whatever) and your approach to sidequests. I know people would complain about Nier's sidequests, how tedious they were, how unrewarding they could be, and the fact that you can permanently miss some of them. But at least there was a log you could access to keep track of the sidequest you have on the backburner. At least it was (usually) obvious what you had to do. At least there was only one point of no return, and it was an obvious one. At least nothing important was permanently missable. At least there was an onscreen cue for who had quests and who didn't. With the except of that goddamn 51% mission on the first half (it's... hard to explain) one could 100% Nier without a FAQ if they had boundless patience; I honestly don't know how one could possibly 100% ToA without a FAQ. Yeah, Tales games just tend to be like that... but it's stupid. As an aside, have I mentioned Nier is actually awesome? It's awesome.

Also, thanks for requiring me to preciously aim my character in a game that lacks camera control except on the world map. (And there needed to be a "mute Mieu" function. Jesus.)

I have no idea why I'm posting this. I guess I just wanted to use this stupid thing.
