A new study published in PNAS suggests that Asians and North Americans literally see the world differently. Chinese test subjects, shown a picture of a stream, focused on the overall system: rocks, water, etc. American eyes went immediately to the trout in the foreground- or, as one researcher put it, "The Americans would go straight for the brightest or most rapidly moving object."
