Roommate A has a cat. Roommate B moves in and (on his/her own initiative) buys a rug for the living room. Roommate A's cat is pretty hard on the rug, and when Roommate A moves out, Roommate B asks A to help pay for a replacement.
Additional information which may or may not be relevant: B never paid for the rug due to an billing error, and A claims that the rug was made of fragile, difficult-to-clean material and that kitty damage should have come as no surprise to B.
Is A obliged to help pay for a replacement rug?
(I am not either one of the roommates in question, incidentally.)
