TO those that did not know, Cat and I went to New York City this weekend. Our main goal was to catch a taping of Saturday Night Live (with host Jason Lee and musical guest Foo Fighters), as well as catch an improve show tomorrow night and the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theater tomorrow night.
As I type this, I am sitting at the table in the kitchen of Kevin Sim's apartment in Manhattan. We got in the city around 5:00 ish friday night, but due to an error on the driver (me)'s part, didn't get to Mr. Sim's apartment til.....6:30....ish?
Anyways. We chatted with Kevin and his roommates for a while, around 3:00 AM we decided to head to rockefeller center to get in the queue for stand-by tickets to SNL. Once 7:00am rolled around, the handed out tickets. We were given the option to attend the dress rehersal or the live broadcast. Seating wasnt garunteed at either show (because there's a lottery one can enter in august to get seats...etc)...so we wanted to increase the odds of seeing the show.
Time rolled by and we were lined up to get into the standby seats. Cat and I were numbers 32 and 33 respectively, and made certain that if it came down that only one of us could go in...it would be her (seeing as she is to SNL what I am to Mystery Science Theater 3000).
As luck would have it, we didnt have to worry about it...we got called, went through the metal detectors...and waited to get on the elevator. There was one person in front of us.....and THATS when they decided they couldn't let any more people in.
WE WERE ONE PERSON AWAY from getting in. after all that waiting and crap. *TWITCH*
So meandered around for a while, taking all the wretched consumer excess that is midtown Manhattan...planning on waiting outside of Rockefeller after the show to meet with the SNL players when they came out.
We did just that, one by one they came out. Even Lorne Michaels came out. I got many a snapshot (to be posted when I get back to State College).
I was able to get Cat to get photos with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Will Forte. She kept asking if I wanted to get in any photos with anyone, but I respectfully declined.
Seeing the smile on her face after it was all done, it made everything worth it. All the could have gone wrong basically did, but it was all set right but the way it worked out.
So tomorrow we'll get to see some actual comedy, and head home on monday. See ya then!
