Making Mention

I was quite pleased with the outcome of the election Tuesday night. I think for Washingtonians a majority of us were apathetic toward the race for Governor since it was the same as 2004, and there were no issues actually discussed. I didn’t know what initiatives, etc. were on the ballot, but it seems the ones I would’ve voted for passed. I hope that things do change in our government, and we can get back some of the progress we had made in the late 90’s. I think the only thing that really upset me is hearing about some states voting down eco-friendly initiatives.

The car show is coming up this weekend, and I’m curious to see if some electric car makers will be at the show. Stephanie and I looked this morning and there’s a couple… so I’m assuming they’d allow them, and its not necessarily a show put on by gasoline powered automakers only. If they refused to allow electric car makers I would see cause to boycott. The only issue about it is that Jeff wants to go on Saturday, and I was aiming more for Friday. He knows its about the same time every year, but didn’t try to get the day off or work early. It seems really that he doesn’t take time off unless its something extravagant that he wants to do, like go to some NASCAR race. I honestly feel in a couple of years I’ll barely know the guy and the tradition will stop.

I still want to hang out on Friday though, because C.J. is in town and I haven’t seen him since we saw Matrix Revolutions in 2003. He’s been in the Navy since February 2004 and gone on quite the number of travels, spending considerable amounts of time in Okinawa and Baghdad. It also seems like he’s changed a little, so I’m curious to see how much different he is (and hopefully not for the worse, as in the situation with Chris). I think the main issue with seeing him is getting the transportation problem figured out since he doesn’t have a car. I figured it’d be a night of conversation, and maybe some Rock Band.

Stephanie and I for sure are moving back to Metro on First when the first loft becomes available. We went there on Monday and viewed some other units, and it felt nice to be back there. ALL of the units were very efficient with the space, and had a good flow for entertaining (though for everyday function, living/sleeping seemed to exist in two separate entities). We were sure about going back, but the debt we would incur by acting on our impulses would’ve been significant. We weren’t 100% sure about any of the units, and so it wasn’t worth it to move there now and into a unit we’re not absolutely sure about. WE LOVED that loft, and unfortunately moving out of it proved to be one of the biggest mistakes we have made. If a loft was open right now, we’d be 100% sure of moving back into it…

The loft had a lot of benefits, and really no drawbacks besides sharing a deck. The 7th floor had high ceilings and lots of natural light because of the rooftop deck. The hallways are wider and longer than those at Centennial giving it more of a spacious feel. The loft itself had a huge bathroom with drawers and a medicine cabinet. The kitchen had tons of space for everything we have and buy at the grocery store. The kitchen was also filled with warm wood and warm brown tones and modern appliances. All of that gave way to the somewhat smallish living room that had high 12-foot ceilings. There was plenty of storage for all of our camping stuff and holiday decorations. Upstairs there wouldn’t be a desk anymore, so it would become a seating area or something. We even had a place for Jack’s litter box. We loved the space because it flowed naturally, and it took little effort to feel settled. The memories that we’re most fond of happened while we lived there, and everything in our lives seemed to improve. It was definitely more homey than any other place we’ve been. Jack also had a wonderful time playing on the stairs and running up and down them in the middle of the night. 714 was definitely a wonderful unit, and we really should’ve never left it.
