At work I've found someone who is interested in the Zodiac, and so it was nice to talk to someone new about things I've observed and help them understand their relationships better. It's in this manner I'll probably get feedback and enough of it to learn from others and modify observations. Just like I always read the general "about me" things, which usually pertain to someone's sign. It's just modified a bit because of their goal, like saying "June babies.... (explains personality)".
I just think it really helps a lot when you can listen to someone talk about someone you don't know, and already completely understand them. Now, instead of trying to figure out their personality you can think about what their actions will lead to in the future. It also helps with a person's relationship; if everyone completely understood their significant other they can either tolerate them to a further degree, or know if the relationship really has substance. For example, Amara (my ex) keeps dating Cancers and get the same result- She gets used in one way or another (because they can be very charming, "ladies-man" type characters). There are other examples to, like Stephanie and I not knowing every little detail about one another but realizing our environment and external factors play in our mood.
I really have no interest in the books, because they don't tell you how their information applies. The astrology texts don't correlate the personality traits they give and how that manifests itself in someone's everyday actions. A Scorpio may be a sign of passion, but how does that express itself in someone's actions? The text's failure to form this relation to real life loses the interest of many people because people are so different from one another. Geminis are creative people. I'm creative and it shows in drawing and writing. Stephanie is creative and she shows it through scrapbooking and events.
How I started to analyze all this is because of something that's covered in general psychology classes. You should read up on the Myers-Briggs personality test and its theory. They went through the trouble of looking through a dictionary to find every word that described a personality trait. After this, they realized a lot of them were words with similar meaning. Upon further analysis they realized of these there were opposites- and someone who is say introverted is not an extrovert. If you think about this, of all those traits Astrology books give you, it can be simplified into these words as well. Myers-Briggs will tell you there's 16 different types- there's 12 different signs. They have 3 different parts each, so technically there's 36 (leaving out those on cusps). Myers-Briggs also takes into account those who only are extroverted to a certain degree. However, their system is a little more simple and allows to you automatically realize, "well I'm barely an introvert and so I'm not necessarily shy just not the most talkative person."
So, does my little conclusion make sense?
