A Journalism Education at Work

I've often credited Dr. Wilkins as one of my main influences since coming to Bona's. His teaching and teaching style have allowed me to reap many rewards.*

I've learned to write more concisely.
I've become a better editor.
I've gained experience dealing with difficult sources (him).
I've discovered perhaps the most useful question you can ask in an interview: "That's vague. Can you be more specific?"
I've had the value of always carrying pen(s) and paper scared into me. (passive) He scared the value of always carrying pen(s) and paper into me.

I've noticed these effects in my writing, my interviewing, my editing and sometimes even in my day-to-day life.

But until today, Denny's lessons had stayed out of my love life.

I started chatting with the photo intern at work over the past few weeks, and today I decided to ask her to lunch. She'd left her phone in her camera bag, preventing her from taking my number. I figured she wasn't lying, so I whipped out my pen and pad, scribbled my digits and handed it over. She texted me later to meet up.

It went well, by the way
*By no means is Denny my only influence at Bonaventure, or even the only one to take part in teaching me most of the lessons I've listed. He's just the one that comes to mind when you talk about "Always being prepared to capture the moment."
