A Moment of History

Nov 05, 2008 00:00

I generally don't get too riled up about politics. I have my opinions and I voice them (often loudly), but in general I'm of the "what will be will be" school of thought.

Tonight, when they started calling the race for Obama, I cried. And when McCain gave his concession speech, I downright bawled. I cried because McCain's speech was tactful, humble, and gracious in a way I did not expect. I cried because my heart broke when people started boo-ing, because as much as I want to think it was due to disappointment at losing, I know that's not the only reason for many of them. I cried because for the first time in a long time I have hope for my country and our future.

I love my country, and I love being an American. For all its faults this is an amazing country, and finally we once again have the leadership to match. A government I can have faith in. I am so excited for the future that I don't have enough words. These next 4 years are going to be challenging, painful, scary, and more amazing than I think anyone could ever expect. I can't wait.
