ok, so tomorrow is Samhain - the holiest day of the pagan year.  the new year.  the HOLIEST DAY of the year.  fanon03  has a training thing for the army in Atlantic City this weekend and they are supposed to leave tomorrow morning.  He got permission to stay home Friday for ritual and then drive up to the training on Saturday morning.  TODAY (nothing like giving notice)  the army tells him he has to leave Friday morning and that if he wants to practice his religion he can bring stuff and do it in his hotel room. WTF people!  There is a guy in his unit that does not work any Saturdays at all because it is the Sabbath.  (yes, fanon03  has to work damn near EVERY saturday)  so it's ok for that guy to take time for his religion, but it's not ok for fanon03 ?  This is BULLSHIT.  I am so pissed.  It is flat out religious discrimination.  I really want to start a huge stink about this and get every pagan I know to start sending complaint letters to whoever it is that you send complaint letters to about this.  did i mention that this is the HOLIEST DAY OF THE YEAR?  So the army is giving lip service to pagans (his dog tags read Wiccan) but preventing them from practicing the religion with their families and group? Fuck that. Someone is going to hear about this shit.  WitchVox is my first stop, then the Wicca Online Community (think Facebook for pagan networking), a whole slew of email lists and social organizations.  I'm going to make the biggest stink possible about this if I have to.

ok. done ranting now.  but seriously, how can i just sit on this? rogue_psion pointed out to me that change never happens if we remain silent about it, and she's very right about that.  so you win political machine.  you got me.  i've been sucked in. again.  Pagan soldiers put their lives on the line for this country just like christian soldiers do , and it is damn time they started getting the respect they deserved and the same rights.
