Ok. I just now saw a post on Penny Arcade about the Sims Online.
From what I gather, this is a game that is based on being a person.
...
You play a flight simulator to simulate flight. Ok cool, not everyone has the balls to jump in a jet.
You play a fight simulator to simulate fight. Sure. No one wants to take poor 5' 6" Ryu against 8' 9" Sagat.
You play a tactical game like Counter Strike. Sure. I don't wanna get shot.
You play racing games to simulate racing. That's fine. I don't have access to a racecar.
....
I HAVE FUCKING ACCESS TO MY OWN BODY AND PEOPLE. I don't have to SIM a fucking thing. I just walk out the door and SIM with some people. Does anyone see the great flaw in a PC/CD-Rom game that is based on being a person? So people are stupid enough to PAY for an internet game that is in essense...a simulated life? As if being addicted to Everquest or Quake or Diablo II or some other alter-reality where you can be a heroic mage, or really tough warrior, or sniper, or race car driver and manage different ways of doing it isn't enough? I can understand someone wanting to be an ogre or a gnome or a barbarian or a necromancer or a Quake dude, but what the fuck? What am I missing? Has life become so very electronic that in order to make friends/have sex(cyber?) that there is literally a game based on something similar to REAL life? Oh. You get to be really rich on the sims game or something? So what.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT LAUGHED AT THE D&D GEEKS AND TREKKIES.
THESE ARE THE PEOPLE.
...
I don't get it.
