Recced because: Well, first of all, this author is amazing. The images and feelings she paints with words can leave a lingering, lasting impression - and even if they can be a lot to take in and grapple with - they always leave you wanting more.

This tale is certainly no different.

It is an alternate universe, where the Doctor feels he has no choice but to remove his TARDIS from the hands of those who would harm Her or use Her for evil ends, by doing something equally as terrible. Nearing his own end and terrified and angry, he makes a choice that will haunt him for the few hours he has left. It is utterly, wholly believable. Suffocatingly dark. And endlessly sorrowful. A masterpiece in writing, in alternate timelines and it touches on the darkness the Doctor carries within that generally does not manifest on such levels...though he is perfectly capable of such. A marvelous read. One that you will carry with you. And even as it leaves you sad and haunted, you will find yourself searching her works for more brilliant words and tales! But I do not expect you to read just based on my recommendation (though you should), so a taste is in order, yes?

He breathes. He tries, at least; his chest is tight, his ribcage clenched around his hearts. A vicious, destructive urge is tingling through his veins as he squeezes the implement, hard enough to hurt. Wicked, unhinged laughter is echoing in his head, a cynical cackle.

Perhaps this is madness.

It is absurd. It is horrid. It is unescapable. Perhaps this is what it tastes like-steel upon his tongue, acid in his lungs, fire in his gut. Hatred, rising and rushing in a capricious wave, turned inwards.

Feel free to go and enjoy - and then please let this author know how she moved you...
