stormsongkRating: All ages
Word Count: 966
Author's Summary: This is a Doctor Who fic, inspired by my wanting to know the story of who the heck would INVENT something like the Sixth Doctor's outfit. And why the heck he'd ever have it on the TARDIS to begin with.
Characters/Pairings: Three
Warnings: None.
Recced because: Six's coat does, perhaps, need an explanation (though sometimes I think I like it), and this is a rather beautiful and touching one. That it should be Three who buys the coat is particularly good - he's (arguably) the best dressed Doctor and in that he is unlike Six, but he has the same sort of proud and slightly alienating demeanour that conceals great cuddliness. In a relatively short fic supposedly about a coat, we're shown a full range of third Doctor emotions, making 'The Science of Fashion' an excellent character piece, as well as an excellent explanation of The Coat.
"WAIT!" cried the vendor, and impulsively grabbed the Doctor's shoulder. In one swift movement, his gloved hand was upon the vendor's, cold fire in his eyes.
"You do want to watch that, sir. I've never yet killed with Venusian aikido, but it is possible. Particularly when I'm caught unawares."
The vendor swallowed. "O'course, sir. I di'nt mean no 'arm or nothin'. I only meant to say, well, you ain't seen the real beauty of the garments yet."
