I did this a couple of months ago. Yes, dodgy I know, but it was my first go.
This was the head off a Noix de Rome-style doll. I picked up a couple in a charity shop for the bargain price of 30 pence (about 50¢).
The hair I used to reroot her was a hairdresser's KaneKalon synthetic braid which was absolutely horrible to work with. Frizzy, easily tangled and just plain yuck. However it was adequate as practice material. Afterward I bought saran hair, which is immeasureably easier to work with.
I employed the
One Thread Anchoring Method to reroot the hair. Afterwards I used dog shampoo and dog detangler to clean the hair which, despite my initial scepticism, worked really well (it actually smells quite nice too!). The final 'do' is quite fluffy, but that's the KaneKalon. All in all it was a good learning experience.
