Valentine's Day an Family
Today is my least favorite day of the year (my next least favorite is less than 6 months away). I absolutely despise today. If you know of the last 6 months events you know why those feelings of animosity have been multiplied, but even before then the day just never made sense to me. Why pick ONE day out of the year to show your love to the person you cherish? Why do that on only ONE day a year? If you REALLY love them, then you should show them you love them every chance you get. Now I know that saying that I hate Valentine's Day contradicts my love of Christmas. I feel the same about Christmas though. I wish everyone felt that warm and fuzzy all day long. Maybe it is because I am bitter about Love. Maybe it is because of recent events and passed Valentine's Day that I look and see all these people in love spending it together. I dunno. But I did want to share what Valentine's Day REALLY is. At least people know why Christmas is celebrated...
Saint Valentine's Day was started somewhere in the 6th century when a martyr got his Sainthood. His day of feast is February 14th. All Saints get a day of Feast. My saint, Saint Monica, her feast is September 27th. Now, this is where I get confused. I knew the story of Saint Valentine has a person who had adopted Catholicism in the last Roman Empire and was marrying couples in secret into the Catholic Church. For this he was found out and killed; a martyr. I was told this way back when I was active in the church. Now, I did some research on the net to see if what I was told was correct. I'm thinking it half was. He was made a saint in either the 5th or 6th century, he was a martyr, but that was all I found. But as you can see it’s another holiday that got corporate America hungry.
There are a few things good to come out of this week. A few years ago I got back in touch with my Dad's side of the family. My Aunt Tootsie and Uncle Joe came out to see me this week. I've spent 3 days with them. It's been a blast. They are great and it’s wonderful to see them again! ^_^
