Let it snow!

It's SNOWING! Big fat flakes that have already covered the ground with a good inch of fluffy whiteness. I LOVE the snow and will be dragging the unwilling preteens out in it to build a snowman as soon as I can. The woods look glorious, like a somewhat OTT Christmas card, but so pretty. I'm hoping it snows for the rest of the day and all night so we ( Read more... )

I'm hoping that we get some. And if not us, then at least some for D-d in York - she is desperate for enough snow to build a snowman.

Hils posted that it was snowing quite hard in York, so there's hope...

I looked at the two webcams a few minutes ago and there's no sign of it. The city centre appears to have a little snow-less ecosystem of its own - there is often snow all over Yorkshire except for a circle of about a mile radius around the Minster!

York will be getting proper, Northern snow - not like this namby-pamby Southern stuff!

Do you get much snow on the island?

York seems to get almost no snow at all - the rest of Yorkshire can be under 6" and they don't have any - much to her disappointment.

I have a sneeky feeling that she chose a Northern university particularly to have snow because we have only had enough here to build a proper snowman once in her life.

It's the salt water around us - we get snow on the hills, and it is pretty, but rarely enough snow below about 1,500' for it to be thicker than icing sugar on a mince-pie.

How odd. But then, York does get more than its fair share of floods from what I remember. Not really so pretty :)

I did wonder if the surrounding sea gave you a special microclimate. Shame about the lack of white stuff, though.
