2. Save as: whatever you want to save it as (onto your harddrive).
3. In LJ, go to Manage, User pics and when the screen pops up, click on browse, find the icon on your harddrive and click open. Then, you can "name" the icon whatever you want in the Description bar ... and to credit me, just put "by: murf1013" in the Comments bar.
4. Click "upload" (I think, it might be just "Save".

Well ... I don't know how familiar you are with the different programs, but I use The GIMP. It's free, unlike Photoshop which is pretty expensive.
Basically, I just take 4 pictures, crop them how I want them, shrink them to 100x100, make the "name" header, then paste the picture into seperate layers beneath the header. Then you just have to set the length of time for each icon to be on screen.
