Since my internet is too slow for me to watch the NDP, I indulge myself with a repeat mode of patriotic NDP songs. Bawling my eyes out, I thought I'd pop by to jot down some thoughts when LJ decided to eat my post up. Stupid Frank.
Banana once told me, "Give it another few more months and you won't miss Singapore anymore. Trust me.".
I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen to me. Everything I have is in Singapore, my dream, my hope, my loved ones - everything. I have nothing in NZ that is worth anything of me, except a friend or two. Why would I give up Singapore for something that never captured my heart from the beginning?
I do not blame her though. She came to this land at such a tender age, so prone to changes and so forgetful of the past. "When was independence day?" "Huh? Got war memorial at City Hall area meh?"
The brain forgets, but not the heart. If you had the heart to remember, where your roots were, where you came from. You'd definitely remember things that you bother to remember.
Singapore may not be on her top list, but it's on mine. I may be physically away from home, but my heart is never away. Whenever the cold winter wind chills my heart, I think about home, and it give me a warm fuzzy feeling. It's the memories --- my sunny island, my wonderful friends and family, all my memories i had in school. Somehow or rather, it gives me the strength to carry on.
Singapore is special to me. I am not saying this because I m currently away from home and getting all home sick. I have loved Singapore right from the start. Whenever I go for NDPs and I see the contingents, I swell with pride; whenver I sing the patriotic songs which some people call them as 'propaganda', I have to force back my tears; whenever I see our city skyline from Shears Bridge, I feel so proud of our little country.
Our forefathers took great pain to build up such a wonderful homeland for us, and I will never forsake the place where my roots are. :)
If I had the chance, I'd give back to the place that has given me so much.
Thank you for everything Singapore. :)
Happy birthday! Lovelove!
