The entire town lost its heat today; there was some kind of "equipment malfunction" at WE (Wisconsin Energy) this morning at about 6am... they thought it was a gigantic leak, but it turned out to be something else.
So the whole area has no natural gas. :p It's either electric or wood if we wanna keep warm. (Or coal, but I don't know many homes around here that do coal. Funny how this should happen over the coldest night of the year so far on record (-25F air temp, -40 wind chills)... I normally don't complain about this stuff but damn!

We Energies responding to natural gas outage in Hayward area
MILWAUKEE - An apparent equipment malfunction has resulted in the loss of natural gas service to 1,722 customers in the city of Hayward, towns of Hayward and Bass Lake, Wisconsin. The precise cause of the malfunction remains under investigation.
In order to restore natural gas service safely to each customer in the affected areas, our crews will need to shut off each customer’s gas meter on their property. Crews will then make necessary repairs to the We Energies distribution equipment and begin reestablishing the gas pressure which is needed to supply gas to the customer’s meter.
Service crews will then need to return to the individual properties to restore the natural gas service by turning on the meters and safely re-lighting the pilot lights. If we are unable to gain access to complete the re-lights, a door hanger will be left at the residence informing customers how to schedule a return visit.
Customers affected by this outage who have additional questions should call 800-236-9957.
Customers who have knowledge to help gain access to unoccupied or seasonal properties affected by this outage should call 715-234-9601.
We Energies’ service crews, along with crews from neighboring utilities and natural gas contractors, are assisting in restoration efforts. These efforts will continue around the clock to restore gas service. Customers are being contacted by telephone to keep them informed of our restoration efforts.
The company is coordinating the restoration efforts with local emergency management agencies.
Otherwise it's been an all right day. :) There's a bit of a crisis with drama club (i.e. does the area want us to put on the same production or not, if they do then how are we gonna recruit people, and if not how are we gonna get something done before next fall?) People are sorta pissed and frustrated... namely the 4 that show up at all for the meetings (which includes me and a woman who broke her foot over the holiday.. ouch.)
So how's the weather for YOU guys? ;)
