I'm near terrified to look at my flist post-Oscars; that's why I'm posting my Oscar notes before-hand. Seriously, if you SAW the Oscars, you can skip this; it's a very basic recap. But it's like 8+ pages of notes. FYI.

-Billy Crystal as host - very funny! The opening monologue was hilarious, especially the Michael Moore bit. Hilarious. Always funny, Billy.

-Catherine Zeta-Jones. Looked fabulous in that stunning red dress. Presented best supporting actor, went to Tim Robbins. It was his first nomination and first win, and I couldn't be happier. I loved how he spent a long time telling abuse victims to get help. He's so political. I kinda think that if he ran for President, I would vote for him.

-Billy Crystal. Tells lots of Bush jokes. I love the Democratic entertainment industry.

-Ian McKellen introduces Return of the King. He's a little late on his entrance. The LotR intro is very eloquent and heart-warming, especially for a fan. I started tearing up, and by the time the clip was halfway over, I was in complete tears. Sobbing. Loudly. I love LotR.

-Angelina Jolie presents Best Art Direction, and LotR wins. That's 1 of 11. At this point, they cut to the LotR cast for a reaction shot, and they looked happy of course, but not ecstatic or freaked out or anything, and I thought - that's really ok. They're ok if they don't win, 'cuz they've ALREADY won. The movies they've made, the lives they've touched, the experiences they've shared - it's so much, it's SO much, it's the accomplishment of a lifetime, and I couldn't be prouder of them. I'm not even the most fanatic of fans, and I'm so proud.

-Robin Williams, hilarious as always. He references Nipplegate, and holds Billy Crystal's hand and says they're the San Francisco Wedding Cake. He does funny French impressions. He presents Best Animated Picture, and DUH Finding Nemo wins. Like we expected anything else.

*this evening had *very* little surprises, and that was really ok with me.

*there are lots and lots of 1st wins this evening - it's like the changing of the Hollywood guard, not just actor/director/producer-wise, but technical stuff as well. That's really cool. C'mon, my generation, let's go for it!

-The winner for Finding Nemo, Andrew Stanton, says in his speech - "To my wife Julie - I said it to you in a note in 8th grade, and now I can say it to you in front of a million people - I love you." Awwwww.

-Renee Zellweger presents Best Costume Design - LotR wins!! That's 2 out of 11, it's a fucking steamroller, baby! And everyone's thanking Peter and Fran right and left, it's fabulous.

-Nicholas Cage introduces Master and Commander for best picture - boy, haven't seen him in awhile. And WHY is he introducing the movie? I notice here, every time they cut to a reactiot shot for Master and Commander, they show Peter Weir, which means NONE of the actors are there. Interesting.

-Chris Cooper presents Best Supporting Actress (I love Marcia Gay Harden, btw) - I predict Renee Zellweger, and of COURSE she wins. She actually looks very very surprised, and it's her first win!! She's been nominated 3 years in a row, god , this must just be a dream come true for her. She's so cute, she's so sweet in her acceptance speech, yet very composed, thanking lots of people - oh, she thanks Tom Cruise! She's adorable. I love her.

-And Billy Crystal gives a shoutout to the servicemen and women. Very appropriate, feels kinds forced.

-"Hail to the Chief" plays as Tom Hanks walks out, heh, that's funny. He intros the Bob Hope memoriam, the soundtrack to which is the Forrest Gump score, and it's very very touching.

*AT THIS POINT IN THE BROADCAST, I HAVE ALREADY CRIED, LIKE, 7 TIMES.

-Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson come out, and Ben's in his Starsky costume, with Owen in a tux. Funny banter; love those guys. They present live action short and animated short; who the fuck cares? Two Soldiers and Harvie Krumpet win, respectively - oh, but the guy who accepts for Harvie Krumpet thanks his "beautiful boyfriend Dan." Touched my fucking heart, it did.

-Liv Tyler, who looks STUNNING in glasses, intros the first 3 songs nominated. First is "You Will Be My Ain True Love" from Cold Mountain, sung by Sting and Alison Krause, both of whom I LOVE. The performance is haunting, beautiful, utterly gorgeous. Next is also from Cold Mountain, Alison Krause, Elvis Costello and T-Bone Burnett singing "The Scarlet Tide."

AT THIS POINT, I REMEMBER THAT I LOVE THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY, ALL OF IT. MOVIES, MUSIC, TELEVISION, THE WHOLE THING. And I want to be a part of it. Please. I want it.

-Then, it's Annie Lennox singing "Into the West", and I cry again. My heart is simply not big enough for the feelings I have for this movie. Seriously, I'm bawling. Big fat tears rolling down my cheeks, nose all red and snotty. Gorgeous. I want to give everyone involved in LotR the biggest, happiest hug they've ever received.

-Billy Crystal does a hilarious impression of Robin Williams.

-Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are utterly adorable as they present Best Visual Effects, which LotR takes - that's 3 of 11. STEAMROLLER, BABY!! Everyone's saying thanks for the recognition - YOU FUCKING DESERVE IT.

-Jennifer Garner and the Scientific-Technical Awards. yawn.

-Jim Carrey - and oh god! He's still weird! Look at that! He does the honorary Oscar intro for Blake Edwards, and the John Ritter clip saying "I'm Mrs. Arnold Schwarzenegger" was just PERFECT.

-Blake Edwards has a great sense of humor, and again, I'm super-touched. Shit. I'm such a ho for the Oscars.

-Bill Murray intros Lost in Translation and juliaabra says he's hot. I can't agree, but I love him.

-Scarlet Johannsen, who looks BEAUTIFUL, presents Best Makeup, which LotR takes. That's 4 of 11.

-John Trevolta and Sandra Bullock present Best Sound Mixing, LotR, 5 of 11. STEAMROLLER, baby!! Also Sound Editing, and LotR isn't nominated, so I wanted Pirates, but Master and Commander wins.

-Julia Roberts intros the Katharine Hepburn memoriam. I HATE Julia Roberts, and I thought she looked stunning. That's how you know she was fabulous. If I ever say that christina ricci was beautiful, just kill me.

-Oprah intros Mystic River. That's weird. (I've only seen PotC and LotR, keep in mind)

-Diane Lane and John Cusack present Short Documentary. Who cares?

Shit. This is too long. The point is: LORD OF THE RINGS SWEPT EVERY CATEGORY IT WAS NOMINATED IN AND IT FUCKING WELL DESERVED IT. Best Picture, FUCK yeah. Best Director, FUCK yeah. Dommeh was tearing up on stage. I was so happy for them. I love them. I couldn't be prouder. My heart is full. I love movies, I love the industry, I love Hollywood, I love the Oscars, but most of all, I LOVE LORD OF THE RINGS. You knew it was going to win, and it FUCKING WELL DESERVED IT. I am just. So happy. yes. now I will clean the kitchen, go to McDonalds, and drive around Hollywood taking pictures of limosines.

hey ninjetti75, if you've read this far, are you enough of a fanatic to want me to send you a portion of the Schizophrenic liner notes that JC held in his hands, when he signed them for me? Cuz I'll send you that, with the picture copies, if you're fanatic enough to want that. Lord knows I am. :)

I still have to clean the kitchen, and get food, and do stuff, but Oscar. *sigh* Oscars, man, I love you, you're the highlight of my year, thank god for the entertainment industry. Kisses. Big fat kisses to the LotR boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
